Area information

Our house is located in the far west of Carinthia in the village of Kötschach-Mauthen. Kötschach-Mauthen is located in the Gailtal at an altitude of about 700 meters and about 15 kilometers from the Italian border. You can enjoy this beautiful area all year round. In the summer you can go hiking, use the Aquarena with the indoor and outdoor swimming pool within walking distance or cycle/mountain bike along the Gail. In winter you have a ski slope close to the house that is especially suitable for families with children. The Nassfeld ski area (free ski bus) is 20 km away and the Lienz ski area is half an hour's drive away. Supermarkets and restaurants can be found within walking distance of the house.

Mauthen

On the outskirts of the village is a beautiful natural swimming pool. This is suitable for children and swimming laps. Next to the swimming pool is a playground with a barefoot path and a catering facility.

The Großglockner High Alpine Road is one of the most beautiful roads in Austria. A mountain road, which starts in Bruck, with magnificent views.

Lienz

Lienz has a beautiful historic centre, a medieval castle and its own ski resorts. The Hochstein mountain can be reached from Lienz via a cable car. At the foot of the mountain is a toboggan run. There is also a cable car to the Zettersfeld ski area.

Garnitzenklamm

Near Hermagor, near Mödendorf, the Garnitzenklamm is a four-and-a-half-kilometre-long Schlucht where you can take a beautiful walk. Especially recommended in warm weather.

Pressegger See

A real family destination. The lake has beautiful beaches all around. It is not very deep, so the water temperature can rise to 28 degrees.
